Team USA figure skating sensation Ilia Malinin entered Friday as an overwhelming favorite to take home gold in the men’s free skate at the 2026 Winter Olympics. Unfortunately, things did not go as planned.

According to La Stampa, an Italian newspaper, the 10,000 gratis prophylactics available to the athletes at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games have run out in record-breaking time -- i.e., three days. “The supplies ran out in just three days,” an anonymous athlete told the newspaper. “They promised us more will arrive, but who knows when.”

Mikaela Shiffrin signed up for this. So did Ilia Malinin, Scotty James and all the rest. Nobody is forced to come to the Olympics. The athletes in Milan and Cortina dreamed about these two weeks long before the flames were lit in northern Italy.
